See How Nigerian Economy was Impressively Rated By world Bank

Image
Recent placement of Nigeria’s economy by global rating agencies in particular the World Bank, as the 26th largest in the world specifically in terms of nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 24th for Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), has met with mixed reactions within the country and concerns that such is likely to induce a false sense of security in government circles. Daily Trust reported that,While ranking within the first 30 in the World Bank list of 155 countries, Nigeria’s position seems impressive, the situation belies the state of affairs in the country. This is because the two measures represent different aspects of the economy, and hardly the total picture. While the GDP is a measure of the market value of the total production of goods and services in the nation’s economy within a designated year, and the PPP reflects the purchasing power of Nigeria’s currency the Naira and even standard of living of the citizenry, they hardly tell a complete story of the state of affairs, es

Image
By Saeed Kamalu Bako The Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, has called on the public to disregard claims that forms for entry into 73 Regular Course are on sale. The Public Relations Officer, NDA, Abubakar Abdullahi, made the call in a statement in Kaduna on Monday. According to Mr Abdullahi as reported by Daily Nigeria, any information circulating on social media purporting sale of the forms is false and has no link with the NDA. “The general public is advised to shun any individual or group offering NDA forms for sale, as doing any business with such fraudulent individuals or groups will be at the bearer’s risk,” he said. Mr Abdullahi stated that all activities relating to admissions into the NDA would be duly publicised on the official website of the institution: www.nda.edu.ng, and in some national dailies. “Interested applicants are thus advised to periodically check our website for information relating to all NDA admissions as well as other matters of interest,” he said.

Image
Saeed kamalu Bako With the presence of honey in large quantity in Nigeria, particularly pure honey people show less concern to this divinely ordained blessing not knowing the benefits it offer to humans in term of their health, sexuality and many more. There are lots of benefit offered by honey which people are unaware. Some of the major benefits are: Honey can serve as Memory Booster. Another most important benefit of honey is its ability to prevent and fight cancer. No do

Industrialization: The Path To Economic Development

Image
Ali Muhammad Ali  Industrialisation is logically seen as the  application of scientific knowledge to man's economic, agricultural, and other wealth-generating activities. In other words, it is the conversion of the 'know-why' of science into `know-how' for industry; it is the practical application of man's inventiveness in the improvement of his well-being and the increase of his wealth. Industrialisation however depends on four essentials: the right idea, the right method of putting it into effect, the right moment in time, and availability of the right materials. Machine invented with the help of scientific know- how are used for quicker and easier production of wealth. Therefore, it is a commonsense to say that the economic development and progress of a country  dependents on its industrial growth. There was a time when countries depend entirely on agriculture. Before the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain too was an agricultural country. Had it not been for t

BRIEF HISTORY OF WASE

Image
By Saeed Kamalu Bako The history of  Wase dated to 1817 starting from the coming of Madaki Hassan the son of Giwa. Though the history cannot be fully completed without mentioning the father of Madaki Hassan (Giwa) Giwa was a Fulani man who came from Borno, he first settled at Gazargamu and later moved to a placed called Elelle in Borno Emirate. He however later migrated to Wuro-Mayo in Bauchi Emirate where he continued propagating Islam. In Wuro-Mayo, Hardo Bala gave his daughter (Pendo) hand in marriage to Giwa. Giwa also married the daughter of Zaranda (Zainab). He (Giwa) was the first person to know about Wase, because during that time he used to bring his cattle to graze around Wase Rock. Giwa gave birth to three (3) sons (Hassan, Abdu and Umaru). The ancient Wase however, was formally founded by Madaki Hassan of Bauchi in 1817. Madaki Hassan the son of Giwa studied under Usman Dan fodio. When Danfodio send  Yakubu; one of his pupil and founder of Bauchi Emirate to canvass for f

GENDER EQUALITY, FEMINISM, AND THE MISCONCEPTION SO FAR!

Image
By Nazir M. Suleiman  Today, like those old good days , the term gender equality is often misconstrued to mean feminism. This has been a month of sundays since 1890s in Europe and the western Hemisphere and up to this modern time, the term feminism and gender equality remain unclear. Where do we always got it wrong? Lucid descriptions has been made in the feminist utopean literatures( check Donna Haraway 1980) on how gender equality and feminism part ways. They all claim to fight for 'equality' though. Perhaps the misconception lies within the word 'equality' that both the parties claim to pursue. But, equality to whom? And in which sense? I will explain, i promise. Before then, it is indispensable to know that, the feminist movement and ideology is in itself differs, confuses and overlaps based on their claims and strategies believe to achieve EQUALTY. For instance; The radical feminist Sought freedom and privileges of feminine while, to them, equality is undesirable o

On Kurna Asabe Painful Raod Traffic: A free advice to the Kano State government and KAROTA

Image
By  Ibrahim A. Iliyasu Kurna Asabe is an area located in Dala local government in Kano state, the environs is popularly known for huge populations to which many people describe the area as a China of Kano. The area is faced with serious road traffic and many challenges to which its citizens have been wondering about the existence of government in the area. The population of the area is regularly increasing day by day. Perhaps, that is why people are saying any government that fail to win out votes during election in the area would likely not succeed. Sadly, the population of Kurna Asabe in itself can be said is equivalent to one local government or even more in Nigeria. But, the area is left behind in terms of infrastructural development such as good roads, schools, hospitals, portable water, security, electricity and many more. Looking at some major roads and feeder roads in the area one can be shocked whether the government exist in that area. Nonetheless, every morning when going ou

Dear Writer, Race No MORE

Image
By Nazir M. Suleiman Every writer starts somewhere differently and He is bound to end somewhere differently. What matters is the quality of his write up which is determined by it's wavelengths. Writing is a craft, you need to master one. There ain't a born writer. It takes some doings and you will be well on your way. You need to set your goals and move studiously toward achieving them. And, this should be at your own pace, I repeat, at your own pace! It's not a contest! Many writers died many times before their time. Their poor-line of thinking caused it all. They thought they are competing with everybody who writes and presumably doing perfectly well. But, this is childish and it's not helping at all. Copy his style if it seems interesting but you cannot jump at becoming exactly him/her, do you know where he/she started from? It's too great a risk - dare not to take one. Writing is uneasy I must confess. Sometimes you will spent your whole day trying to put down
